NRTL and CSA Certification Services

Element helps companies perform mandatory product safety testing to achieve Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and CSA mark certification for the electrical safety of devices in the US and Canada.

Approval provides independent verification that a product has been type tested to specific UL and SCC standards identified under the certification scheme. It also ensures the manufacturing quality is the subject of an ongoing inspection.

We provide independent testing and factory inspections needed to validate your electrical products and guide you through the assessment process. Element are experts in NRTL submissions through MET. We have been testing to their requirements for more than 20 years, and this longstanding cooperation means that hold-ups at the certification stage are minimized, giving you a faster route to compliance and quicker market access.

We can also offer flexibility to provide any North American NRTL mark you require, including UL and CSA group, through theIECEE CBscheme as a Certified Body Test Laboratory (CBTL). This makes Element the perfect partner to test and certify domestic and international products heading for the North American market.

The certification process

In order to obtain NRTL certification, your product must be assessed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.

Met Labs is one of several certification bodies that proves your products meet the safety standards laid out under federal law throughout the United States, and is also accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for approval throughout Canada. The MET Mark is a faster and more cost-effective route to certification than the alternatives. It satisfies the requirements of both the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) in the US and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

There is a three-part process to obtaining the Met Certification Mark through Element:

• Testing -Testing is required against the relevant UL and CSA listed standard for your product type. We can advise you on the test specifications and methods that will best meet your unique product needs.
• Factory inspection -For all certifications under the NRTL or SCC schemes, evidence of a controlled factory production line is required. The inspections are product and manufacturing-based but may also require some examination of your company’s quality management system. Element is an approved factory inspection organization and can provide Pre-Certification Factory Inspections (PCFI), Bi-Annual Factory Inspection or Quarterly Hazloc factory Inspection in any location across the globe.
