Element is a leading expert in the performance testing of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products used within indoorenvironmentaland air quality control systems in the North American market. Our testing ensures that your HVAC products performs optimally to offer building occupants the most comfort.

As the construction industry continues to progress with demands for energy efficient and comfortable buildings, HVAC performance testing is an important part of achieving good indoor air quality, occupant comfort, and significant energy savings.

Element’s HVAC performance testing laboratory specializes in conducting both pre-certification assessments of products and performance evaluations across a range of electric and gas-fired HVAC appliances.

These include:

  • Gas and electric water heaters with storage tanks or instantaneous systems
  • Residential gas-fired boilers
  • Integrated appliances, products and combo systems.

The insights we gain from HVAC system testing help us not only to provide you with valuable data about its performance but also to ensure that building regulation targets are met.

Our HVAC performance testing capabilities

Element’s laboratory is equipped with an environmental test chambers that allows simulating both indoor and outdoor test conditions in a controlled environment. We control humidity (up to 75% RH) and temperature (-30°C to +40°C) to replicate the conditions that an HVAC system would typically encounter during the course of its service life, providing you with valuable information about its efficiency and power.

Our capabilities also include the accurate metering of both gas and water flow, electrical power consumption, pressure and temperature measurements, as well as continuous monitoring through the use of a programmable data acquisition system.

We have a constant temperature water supply and an infrared CO/CO2 analyzer for precise measurement of combustion products from gas-fired appliances throughout the testing process.

The Element advantage

Element’s HVAC system testing laboratory located in Mississauga, Canada is the only laboratory in North America that is approved by the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) for the performance evaluation and certification of Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV). Our testing is conducted in accordance with HVI Publication 920 and CSA C439.

Furthermore, the laboratory was selected by the Department of Natural Resources NRCan to conduct verification testing for the eKOCOMFORT initiative where integrated appliances were developed with combined space and water heating systems as well as ventilation through the use of heat recovery ventilators (HRV). Our testing of combined space and water heating systems (combos) is performed in accordance with CSA P.9-11.

These testing capabilities, coupled with our vast industry knowledge, make us the ideal testing partner for all of your projects related to the performance of a building. To learn more about our performance testing of HVAC systems, or to speak with one of our experts, contact ustoday.
